After a debacle filled week of rough starts, blown leads, blown saves and shaky comebacks… FINALLY A PITCHER THAT CAN PITCH!
Freddy Garcia hasn’t pitched in 15 months but, he was as Jim Leyland said after the game, “a thing of beauty!”
Garcia looked confident last night. It’s about time someone did! He had good mound presence. After one particular inning the camera caught him flashing a half-smile… a kind of “yeah I still got it” kind of smile!
Garcia threw an economical 59 pitches over 5 innings in the 17 – 4 Tigers win. See his line below!
5IP 2H 1R 0ER 1BB 3SO 0HR 0.00 ERA!! 0.60 WHIP
He’s scheduled to pitch again in Detroit Tuesday night against the Royals. I just sold my tickets for this game and now I’ve got second thoughts. Too late! But, I will be at Friday night’s game to see the Tigers face the Rays! That could be really exciting!
Gary was hitless last night in his quest for 500!
Wow! I like him – alot! He had 4 hits in last nights game. In 20 at bat’s he has had 8 hits, scored 3 runs, has homered and has driven in 5 runners. The FSN Detroit TV crew of Mario Impemba and Rod Allen remarked as well that the pitchers are liking him behind the plate, too!
Is there a full-time catchers role in his future? If he continues like this, why not? I’d like to see Brandon Inge go back to third.
Tigers are off tonight. Beginning tomorrow night, they’ll have three in Cleveland before coming home to play host to KC.
Most likely I’ll be watching the Mets tonight… and checking in on the Yankees, too!
Boston has the night off, but not Tampa Bay! With a win tonight, the Rays can extend their lead over the Red Sox by a half game. I’ll peek in on them as well.
Santana is pitching tonight for the Mets, who NEED to keep winning!
The Rays are sending James Sheilds out face Minnesota. He’s 13 – 8 with a 3.50 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.
The Twins have lost 4 in a row.
