Off-Day Observations!

First of all, let me just say that on this day my thoughts are with those who lost family and friends seven years ago! We will never forget!

LA ANGELS

Clinched the AL West last night!!!  First ones in. Torii Hunter was unable to join the on field celebrations because he is serving a two game suspension. Justin Speier donned Hunter’s jersey on the field during the festivities to let Torii know the team was thinking about him.

RAYS VS BOSOX

What a thrilling game that was last night. ESPN covered the game, but I preferred to watch it on NESN. Nothing against ESPN, I just prefer the local coverage of a game when I can get it. It was former Tiger Carlos Pena and his shot over the green monster that put the Rays ahead in the 14th inning. Another former Tiger Troy Percival, who had really been kicking it up this season, didn’t fare as well last night. He gave up a couple of walks and a double and was pulled from the game. I don’t know who will end up in first over in the AL East, but one thing’s for sure… it’s going to be a fun September!

DODGERS VS PADRES

I watched a little of this game last night. Manny hit two homers. Wow!  The Padres TV crew on Channel 4 in San Diego remarked… “He’s a game changer!!” He certainly is! They also expressed the hope that the AL would take him back, and said it gave the San Diego fans something to hate now that Barry Bonds is no longer around to kick about!

Congratulations to Derek Lowe for getting his first win at Petco Park in San Diego. Derek was hit in the knee by a line drive off the bat of Kevin Kouzmanoff and had to leave the game. Rookie Scott Elbert replaced the injured Lowe on the mound. Brad Penny fresh off the DL entered the game in relief in the seventh and didn’t record an an out… he gave up two singles and a walk before being relieved. Dodgers won though and increased their lead over the Diamondbacks to 3 and 1/2 games! Arizona has lost 6 in a row!

I’m thinking Blue!! Go Dodgers!
