The Tigers/White Sox game finally got underway today after a 3 hour rain delay. Geez! It seems as though bad weather is just following these two teams around.
It’s interesting that Freddy Garcia is starting for Detroit.
He’s pitched for the White Sox.
At the start of the season, Ozzie Guillen said he didn’t see him pitching at all this year.
He’s married to Ozzie’s second cousin!
And, Garcia’s pitching against Gavin Floyd. These two guys were traded for each other! It’s sometimes bizarre how things turn out!
It was the best we could do with 161 games! What more did you want? Yeah, that was sarcasm!
2009 TIGERS CHANGES
Yesterday, I mentioned briefly that the Tigers fired Chuck Hernandez and Jeff Jones. And, it was long overdue! I also understand that all of the other coaches were asked to come back next season. All accepted – except one. I don’t know who that is. I feel as though it may be first base coach Andy Van Slyke. I recall that at the start of last season he made some comments about wanting to spend more time with his family.
Edgar Renteria will not be in a Tigers uniform next year. The organization won’t be picking up his option.
After Saturday’s game, Jim Leyland said that he had already figured out what to do about our third base dilemma. Brandon Inge would now move over to third. It’s true that Brandon needs a bigger stick at the plate, but we got hurt without his defensive skills at the hot corner!
Also, Carlos Guillen will get the start in left field. Whoa! What?? You’ve got to be kidding me? I really can’t see him out in left. What about Marcus Thames?
The pitching staff is in dire need of an overhaul…
Oh, and we still don’t have an everyday catcher!
So, that means that next year will focus on rebuilding.
Here we go again!
